About Us

The Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo was established in November, 1999 with Dr. Daniel N. Bobzom as its first Medical Director.

As an alternative, the management decided to take off from a rented private premises with about 50 bed space in 2001. The major clinical departments like Medicine, Obstetric and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery, Laboratory, Pharmacy and all supporting departments were operational. After three (3) years in office the pioneer Medical Director handed over to Dr. Daniel E. Ekanem who acted for seven (7) months prior to the approval of Dr. Idris Balassa as a substantive Medical Director in 2003.

The then Medical Director negotiated with the State Government which led to the release of the Specialist Hospital to Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo in February, 2004 which was a 120 bed space facility.

The old structures which were built in the 1960s have withstood the test of time. However, they were not purposely built for modern operational hospital and due to lack of master plan, subsequent structures were built.

At inception, the structures handed over consisted only of the core clinical wards and three (3) rooms Administrative block. Then over the years, structures such as the Medical Directors Office Complex, Consultants’ Block, Specialist Clinic, Administrative Block, Dental Clinic, Medical Record, General Outpatient Department (GOPD), Accident and Emergency Unit and others were added.

In September, 2011, Dr. Wiza Inusa was appointed 3rd Medical Director having served for a period of sometime as the Head of Clinical Services in Acting capacity. He continued the work to build on the progress as achieved by his predecessors.

Dr. Iliya Dangana Attah served as acting Medical Director for a period of eight (8) months until the current Medical Director (Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu) was appointed as the substantive Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo on the 25th March, 2020. She took over the mantle of leadership on the 30th April, 2020.

Dr. Aisha who before her appointment is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Head of Internal Medicine Department in the hospital.

Immediately she assumed office, an assessment committee has been setup to conduct an up to date analysis of the hospital’s Infrastructure, Equipments, Personnel and Operational Modalities.  The committee has since submitted its report.
