PROFILE OF THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR
DR AISHA SHEHU ADAMU MBBS, FMCP, MNIM

Consultant Physician Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist

Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu was born on 15th September, 1969 and hails from Karim -Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

She attended Capital Primary school, Yola from 1977 to 1981 and then proceeded to Federal Government Girls College, Yola, Adamawa State for her Secondary Education from 1981 to 1986. Dr. Aish also attended School of Basic Studies (Ahmadu Bello University Zaria) 1986 to 1987and obtained her MBBS from College of Medical Sciences;  University of Maiduguri, Borno State in 1995.

She started her Medical career as a House Officer at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital between 1995 and 1996 and then went for her NYSC at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu Yobe State in 1996. After completionof her Residency Programme at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, she went on to obtain a Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College as a Consultant Gastroenterologist  in 2008 and was appointed a Consultant Physician at the Federal Medical Center Jalingo in 2008.

She has served in various capacities both within and outside Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo  among which are:-

  • Technical Team Leader Roche/Taraba Hepatitis access Project in 2017.
  • Deputy Head of Clinical Services from April, 2014 to March, 2020.
  • Head of Internal Medicine Department, March, 2011 to 2020
  • Anti –Retroviral Therapy Programme Site Coordinator,  FHI in Collaboration with Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo – January, 2008 to 2020
  • Chairperson Anti- Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) FMC, Jalingo 2008 to 2019.
  • Chairperson Quality Assurance Quality Improvement Team 2009 to 2015

She is a member of several professional bodies such as; Nigerian Medical Association (MNMA), Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), Medical Women of Nigeria (MWAN), Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria (SOGHIN), Africa and Middle East Gastroenterological Association (AMAGE),  Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN),  Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Registered Administrative Managers in Nigeria (RAMG), National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCP) etc.

Due to her outstanding quality as an Administrator and Medical practitioner, she has received several awards some of which are: Award of Excellence for outstanding performance as ACTU Chairperson in FMC Jalingo 2015.  1st Female Consultant Physician Taraba State given by Women in Colleges of Education North-East Zone (WICE) 2013

Merit Award for diligence and dedication to duty given by Management of Federal Medical Centre Jalingo 2006 among others.  She is married with three children.
